John Septimus Roe Anglican Community School is a school of the Anglican Schools Commission with a mission to build a Christian community of learners, to provide a quality educational experience, and to nurture the whole person in the three dimensions of mind, body and spirit.1 With the development and expansion of the Music Department over the last decade, a number of organs have been purchased, two from Pipe Organs W.A. and one from Rudolf von Beckerath Orgelbau GMBH.

The organ in the Performing Arts Centre was built in 2005 by Pipe Organs W.A. Pty Ltd. This is a free standing instrument, mounted on castors for mobility. The organ is a teaching and recital instrument capable of realising repertoire from different disciplines over the past 400 years. It has the capacity to support vocal and instrument ensembles of varying sizes.3 The case work is of Tasmanian Oak for the frames and Silky Oak veneer for the paneling. The Panel edges are painted the school colour (garnet). Drawstop jambs and pipe shade carvings are of Silky Oak. Keycheeks are of Tasmanian Oak with Ebony inlay.4 The organ is located in a modern, purpose-built Performing Arts Centre.

St Paul's Chapel is a striking building constructed in 1999, while the organ was built in 2011 by von Beckerath Orgelbau, Hamburg. It has three manuals and pedal, 35 stops, mechanical action, electric couplers and stop action, and a crescendo pedal. The console features a complex capture system, controlled by a touchscreen. The organ is not a slavish copy of any particular instrument, but draws its inspiration from the French romantic school of organbuilding. The stoplist, though, was based on the 1998 Kenneth Jones & Associates organ at Trinity College Chapel, within the University of Melbourne, with additional pedal stops and a swell 16ft flue.6
