A RICH AND DIVERSE PALATE

32nd Annual Conference

Adelaide and the Barossa Region, South Australia

Saturday 3rd October - Saturday 10th October, 2009

The 32nd OHTA Annual Conference was held in South Australia commencing Saturday 3 October and continuing through the following week. Sights, sounds and tastes were explored as we visited Adelaide and the Barossa Region. A rich and diverse palate of organ and German culture was a feature.

The 1875 Hill & Son Grand Organ and the organs of German immigrant Daniel Lemke were focal points. Instruments by Gebrüder Walter, Löhrmann, Laukhuff, Krüger and J.E. Dodd were also visited.

A country tour to the historic copper mine of Burra was incorporated.

A downloadable PDF brochure with booking arrangements is available by clicking here.

The 2009 OHTA annual conference took place in Adelaide and the world-renowned Barossa Valley region, focussing on the diverse palate of sound, wine, food and other experiences to be discovered. Included were visits to instruments by local and overseas makers. South Australian organbuilders were well represented with German emigrants J.C.A. Krüger, D.H. Lemke and S.C. Löhrmann, together with W.G. Rendall, Fincham & Hobday, J.E. Dodd and W.L. Roberts. The work of interstate builders Hill, Norman & Beard and Whitehouse Bros were inspected together with modern mechanical action organs by Roger Pogson, George Stephens, J.W. Walker & Sons and Knud Smenge. Imported organs included examples of the work of Bishop & Son, the Hill & Son organ being installed at the Barossa Regional Gallery, Tanunda, and the German builders Gebrüder Walter and Aug. Laukhuff. We also heard several recitals, listened to papers on topical subjects and visited historic towns, wineries and places of interest. The unique Germanic heritage of the Barossa Valley region was a feature. We also visited the historic copper mining towns of Kapunda and the Burra.
